A novel method of ranking of critical buses based on the combined effect of contingencies and the bus load reaching to its critical value is developed in this paper. Initial selection of buses for ranking is carried out using the slope of the graph of active power load versus the minimum singular value of the diagonalized load flow Jacobian. A new bus ranking index is derived using the concept of load curtailment. The proposed method is applied on several systems and the results of 6 bus system and IEEE 30 bus system are presented for illustration.
