non-dedicated workstation clusters, checkpointing, process migration
This paper describes the design of a process checkpointing and migration infrastructure in Clondike, a clustering ex tension of the Linux kernel. Unlike other existing projects, this infrastructure is tailored to be used with non-dedicated workstations that belong to different administration do mains. Another unique feature is a hybrid process migra tion technique combining standard memory transfer with a lazy copy-on-reference approach, which brings substan tial performance benefits. A few experimental evaluations are presented to demonstrate the performance of Clondike.
