Abstract

The finite element models of the inner organs (pelvis, skull, long bone) are developed from the series of computer tomography scans and include material properties based on apparent density of the tissue. A standard procedure consisting of image tresholding and determining the bone outer and inner surfaces using the marching cubes algorithm is used for reconstruction. The migration of acetabular cup into the pelvis is investigated. The FE model of the skull is used for numerical modelling of a head impact during traffic accidents. The FE models of long bones enable to predict their failure load.
