Abstract

Most standard (explicit) methods are not recommended for solving stiff differential equations and Taylor series methods are no exception. However, we show in this paper that where the stiff component can be preprocessed into a linear form so that Laplace transform techniques are applicable, a Taylor series solution can be obtained with relatively large step lengths for acceptable accuracy. The use of Laplace transform techniques however creates problems of initialization which do not arise with the more conventional methods. We describe one approach of getting round this problem.
