Active filters, passive filters, MMIC, communications systems.
In this paper we present a comparative overview of active and passive filters in the area of radio frequency (RF) and microwave systems. It explains the present domination of passive filters in the communications market. However, due to their intrinsic properties, active filters may respond to challenges of future communication systems. The review of some of the recent research directions in the field of active filtering concludes to the emergence of a group of novel LC "Q-enhanced" filters with attractive performances.
