Abstract

Segmentation of the cerebral veins can be a very useful tool for pre-surgery investigation. It can also be used to correct fMRI data by spatially correlating brain activity and veins. In the present paper, a new segmentation algorithm to ex tract the venous structure from MR venography images, us ing an approach based on inertia tensors, is proposed. The integration of this algorithm in a processing chain designed to achieve an accurate interpretation of fMRI data is dis cussed. Finally, results on six fMRI exams are presented to evaluate this method’s effectiveness.
