This paper presents a virtual machine (VM) network ele ment based, highly scalable, approach to delivering courses on Linux-based computer networking and network security termed WebLab/Xen. It describes an accompanying exper imental implementation of a system featuring virtual lab oratories as virtual machines through the Xen hypervisor and motivates extensions to build VM-based Network Ele ments based on it.
