Abstract

The use of computers in teaching statistics is reviewed. Focus is given to the problems encountered when using technology to teach statistics, the common problems students have learning statistics, and how instructors can deal with these problems through the application of basic principles of learning. The strengths of computer-based teaching tools are highlighted regarding solutions to the identified problems. The existing uses of computer-based teaching tools are examined and discussed. Finally, the authors explore new ideas for applying technology to facilitate the teaching of statistics.
