Abstract

Open Source web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox have encouraged 3rd party developers to write plug-ins or extensions. In particular, ad blocking extensions have become very popular. Using real web traffic traces combined with popular advertising blacklists, we examined the cost benefit of using such ad blocking extensions. We have discovered that for organisations that incur reasonable costs for using the Internet would financially benefit from using Mozilla Firefox with an ad blocking extension.
