Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the concepts involved in intrusion detection for mobile wireless ad hoc networks. As mobile wireless ad hoc networks have different characteristics from wired networks and even from standard wireless networks, there are new challenges related to security issues that need to be addressed. We present an overview of those challenges. Also, we show how the intrusion detection techniques are tightly related to routing protocols and identify the new characteristics and changes that need to be done in order to achieve some security levels. We will present a very simple implementation of an intrusion detection system, simulating the mobile wireless environment to show how the different modules involved in the detection have to perform in order to obtain the desired results.
