Abstract

This paper presents a space layout simulation application for the multi-criteria space analysis of construction sites. Our simulation application uses a space analysis module to simulate the distribution of hazard and visibility across a site layout. It also serves as an evaluation platform for the distribution of facilities and resources, and movement paths of logistics and safety of site operatives. A facility allocation component optimises the locations of temporary facilities on the site according to a combination of cost and safety criteria using genetic algorithms. A path selection component applies search techniques to perform optimum path finding according to a combination of distance, visibility and safety measures, and a user defined starting and destination locations.
