The paper analyses the design alternatives and the performance that could be achieved by a FPGA based implementation of a particle engine. The research starts from the software implementation and explores the possibility to build a hardware accelerator for that system. Particularly, the work is concerns with the development of a particle engine for textile simulation, but could be easily extended to other types of 3D surface simulations.
