Abstract

A general dynamic model describing the adsorptive separation was applied to propylene/propane separation system over 5A zeolite . The model is used to investigate the dynamics of the VPSA pilot plant. A mathematical model of the adsorption beds was formulated by application of fundamental mass- and energy transport modeling. For a feed to a conventional VPSA unit, containing an equimolar mixture of propylene and propane. Effects of a number of design parameters such as pressure history, feed rate and dilution with H2, purge rate and temperature on the product purity and recovery were investigated. The comparison of experiments and simulation gave a reasonable agreement.
