XML, web-applications, object-XML mapping.
Many modern distributed systems expose their data through XML documents, but few of them use XML as native data representation format. When data is moved between tier or system boundaries it is transformed from one representation to another. The issue discussed in this paper is, how to perform the object-XML mapping as easy and efficiently as possible. We begin with a short introduction of the problem and examine existing solutions. We discuss the potential for XSLT to be used beyond pure XML-XML transformations and present EXPO to demonstrate our ideas.
