This paper introduces Generalized Stochastic Petri Nets (GSPN) models for the description and the analysis of the performances of a Video on Demand service. We first present simple models of the server and briefly discuss the complexity arising even from these simple models, only partially reduced when load balancing policies are intro duced. In order to overcome the complexity issues we then introduce a simple approximation on the analytical formu lation of the multidisk and multiclient environment.
