Distributed systems, agents, shop floor, Java and Jini
New approaches for the development of shop floor control systems are needed to make manufacturing more flexible and capable to adapt to changing situations. Agent-based solutions have been put forward as promising solutions. We have developed two prototypes of agent-based shop floor control systems on top of Jini. One prototype is product-driven and the second is resource-driven. In this paper these two implementations are described and evaluated. The use of Jini as platform for such implementations is discussed.
