Abstract

The knowledge acquisition stage of any Knowledge Based System (KBS) development is generally considered a bottleneck. This paper compares three machine learning techniques: rule induction, genetic algorithms and instance based learning for knowledge acquisition. Real bioprocess data is used to test these techniques. The results demonstrate that the use of machine learning approaches for knowledge acquisition are beneficial and can be used to reduce the time required to complete the development process of a KBS.
