Fuel cell types, Fuel cell development
The principles of operation of fuel cells and their construction are described in this paper. Alternatives to hydrogen fuel cells and fuel reforming processes are also included. The main characteristics of different types of fuel cells, as well as their advantages and disadvantages, and the developing trends of fuel cell technology are summarized. Their potential for applications ranging from MW sized units for central power stations to high electric power/weight ratio units suitable for transportation to portable ones suitable for electronic devices is analyzed.
