Abstract

In 1999 Council of the European Union published its recommendation for exposure of the general public to electromagnetic fields in the frequency range 0...300 GHz. Harmonics were considered in the recommendation. Recommendation is based on guidelines by International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), published in 1998. At 50 Hz the guidelines for the general public are 5 kV/m and 100 µT. In addition, ICNIRP guidelines included occupational exposure recommendations, from which the values for 50 Hz are 10 kV/m and 500 µT. These given guidelines may be problematic in the existing installations of electric power system. The aim of the study was to compare the existing electric and magnetic harmonics with recommendations in electric power system. Some critical locations in electric power transmission and distribution systems were selected for measurements (n=35). The recommendations were exceeded in 8 measurements when considering electric and magnetic field harmonics.
