lake modelling, validation, eutrophication, initial conditions
Lake models have the potential to assist the decision mak ing authorities regarding issues in environmental planning only if all parties agree that the model is believable. Vali dating a model only over a relatively short time span can lead to deceptively good results, especially if the initial conditions of poorly known states are used as fitting pa rameters. This is most noticeable when the ecosystem is not in a steady periodic cycle such as the case with large lakes.
