Abstract

This paper deals with the study of the control planning problem in a manufacturing system with two-tandem machines which are subject to breakdowns and repairs. The buffer between the machines is assumed finite, non-negative and bounded above by the buffer size. However, the downstream buffer, located after the second machine, can be positive or negative. Our objective is to minimize the expected total discounted cost due to the work-in-process size, finished good inventories and backlogs. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the main results.
