Abstract

On-line learning makes use of electronic media for all communication associated with teaching and learning. In its fully developed form, legacy activities such as lectures, tutorials, group activity, discussion groups even examinations are all supported by the use of networks and computers. This concept has received considerable attention in the literature under the banner of the virtual university. While most would argue that such a concept is no substitute for the traditional campus based university, many agree that for busy mature employees the approach has great value. This paper considers the concept of quality and seeks clarification of this in the context of developing new and reengineered legacy processes for use with on-line learning.
