Nonlinear Parallel Interference Cancellation for Multiuser DS–CDMA Systems in Non-Gaussian Noise

In this paper, we propose a novel multi-user detector that mitigates the MAI and diminishes the effects of the nongaussian noise in a DS-CDMA system through nonlinear parallel interference cancellation (PIC) techniques. Results obtained by simulation show that the proposed detector significantly improves the performance when compared with a simple PIC. Even more, it improves the performance of the single user system that uses a detector designed for gaussian noise. All the improvements are at the cost of only a slight increase in the implementation complexity.
