Electronically Small Microstrip Antenna with Width Discontinuities

When width discontinuities are introduced in a conventional rectangular microstrip antenna, the antenna size is substantially reduced. However the antenna efficiency decreases as the antenna becomes small. In this paper the antenna efficiency of the electrically small antenna is investigated and a microstrip structure that shows improved efficiency is introduced.
