Abstract

Enterprise decision support begins with the design and construction of data marts for functional areas of the organization and integration of the marts into a data warehouse environment. This paper concerns the design issues in building a data mart to track functional assessment of nursing home residents using government approved instruments for collecting and analyzing patient attributes. The data from such assessments provide valuable business intelligence that can be valuable in improving, maintaining, or minimizing decline in the patient's functional status and for the development of outcome-oriented measures of standardized indicators. We use a multidimensional database model for the design of a data mart for this functional need. Though our contribution may not be technically very significant, we feel it has value in the context of the applications domain. We highlight some of our operational experiences in designing a mart for a practical application.
