Abstract

In this paper a study on the classification of musical instruments by means of the wavelet analysis and artificial neural networks is shown. A short discussion on pitch detection methods of musical sounds is presented. Then, some details of the engineered pitch detection method are shown. Several analyses exemplifying problems related to automatic pitch tracking process are included. Principles of the wavelet-based parameterization of musical instrument sounds are presented and a set of parameters resulting from the parametrization process is shown. Artificial neural networks are used for classification purposes. Exemplary results obtained in the carried out investigations are provided and analyzed.
