Abstract

Urban planning is an approach, a planning philosophy and strategy and provides a frame of reference for integrated or complementary between different areas. Urban Planning is a perspective and hence provide steps to develop a religion in proper approach. One of the major constraints often faced by planners and decision makers is the lack of timely, reliable and adequate information about the present resources. Urban Planning helps the planners to make efficient decisions in making the best use of the funds. Urban Planning is a strategy designed to improve the socio and economic life of the urban people and hence this System is chosen. The present system is developed using data warehousing and data mining since the ordinary databases will not serve the purpose of getting the aggregated data in time. The urban planners need the multidimensional data and normal databases would not support this. The warehouse data gives the historical and consolidated information, which is required by the urban planners to utilize the funds in the proper manner. The data mining techniques helps the authorities to view the data in the required form. In this system, the data pertaining to basic facilities of the area is stored in individual databases and aggregated data is stored in the warehouse database. Using this aggregated data delay in taking decisions is reduced. Different users of the system require different parts of the information for querying and requesting purpose. This can be achieved using data warehousing. Data warehousing helps in expanding the system, possibly to include new applications, users or data, which ultimately leads to the efficient working of the system. Data mining techniques are used to get the data in the required form. As the urban planners need the historical, summarized and consolidated data for decision-making, all the related data is placed in a large database called data warehouse and using data mining techniques data in various dimensions can be accessed. The data warehousing is a collection of decision support technologies, aimed at enabling the knowledge worker to make faster and better decisions. The system developed using the above methodology has the advantages such as historical, consolidated and summarized data, multidimensional querying, quick processing of data, reports that can help in decisions making, visualization of data in different forms using data mining techniques.
