Abstract

In view of formulation, image restoration filters can be di vided into two streams. One is formulated as an indirect optimization problem, and the other is formulated as a di rect optimization problem. Although the latter does not have the lack of strictness in formulation that the former may have, the former formulation has been used in many studies without verification of its validity. In this paper, we discuss the relations and differences between these two formulations from a mathematical point of view, and verify the validity of some restoration filters. We also show that the duality of these two formulations is obtained by a kind of regularization scheme.
