Abstract

As the average age of US government federal civilians has been increasing over the years (currently is 46 years old) and over half of the federal civilian workforce is eligible for retirement within the next 3-5 years, a tremendous opportunity exists for knowledge management in the public sector. The identification, capture, application, sharing, dissemination, and creation of knowledge will be critical functions for the US federal government to preserve its knowledge base. This paper highlights the knowledge management activities in a large technical government organization.
