This paper is directly related to the development of software to be used for insect classification. For this specific work we are investigating the capacity of an ANN to classify butterflies of a short family called Morphoidae. The software makes use of DIP techniques to help the ANN in the classification work. Our results indicate that the ANN structure adopted yields a very good classification of insects. In the future works we present some suggestions to improve the accuracy of the ANN.
