mosaic construction, feature extraction, visual tracking, registration
This paper describes a technique for the construction of 2D mosaics and which integrates feature tracking with a direct registration procedure. An initial alignment computed from a set of feature point correspondences supplied by the tracker is subsequently refined by means of a second registering step directly based on image contents. The direct registration technique is implemented as a two-step process in order to obtain an enhanced toleration of possible inaccuracies in the feature-based estimation – without increasing computational cost. This approach enables the avoidance of more computationally expensive techniques such as pyramidal registration. Some mosaic examples are constructed to demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach.
