Abstract

A Diesel spray and combustion model has been connected with the KIVA code to simulate combustion phenomena in a Diesel Engine equipped with a common rail injection system. The paper provides an overview of the submodels developed for mixture formation like liquid core atomization droplet secondary break up and high pressure evaporation processes. Auto ignition and combustion are respectively described by a shell and characteristics time models. The combustion modeling predictions are compared to measurements.
