Abstract

The effects on the propagation of flood waves due to the modifications of the cross sections of Tiber river in a period of about 15 years are evaluated simulating by means of a mathematical model some historical floods. Essentially the main river channel degraded; consequently the water stages are significantly different only where the river is canalized. In the upper part of the watershed, characterized by large floodplains, the discrepancies between the water levels are significantly lower.
