In this paper a Backpropagation and a Counterpropagation neural network are introduced as two different models of pattern recognition systems. The two ANN models are used to recognise different images of one-cell organisms. Furthermore, a Backpropagation network is also trained to recognise between prokarytic and euckaryotic DNA sequences. The ANN systems are programmed in a C-like script language and run in an ANN simulation environment. All the experiments have been done on a PC-platform.
