Abstract

This paper highlights the importance of normative knowledge for organisational modelling. We adopt the organisational semiotics perspective to organisational information systems, and we use deontic logic as the main formal tool to represent normative knowledge. An organisation is a coordinated environment, where multiple individuals interact in order to achieve common goals. This organisational paradigm is the support for using distributed artificial intelligence techniques and multi-agent systems for implementing organisational information systems as normative systems. According to our model, an agent must include not only epistemic knowledge but also deontic knowledge and axiological knowledge.
