In this paper, the instabilities of a buck dc-dc converter under PI control are investigated. The study uses a discrete time description for the closed loop system, by forming a non-linear difference equation with respect to the duty cycle. This results to a thorough examination of the system's behavior and allows drawing conclusions about the limits imposed on the controller parameters.
