This paper describes a security architecture for mobile agent based applications. It outlines the components of the architecture and describes how a range of security services such as authentication, access control, confidentiality and integrity are provided for securing agent based interactions. The agent is enhanced to carry some security related credentials, referred to as the passport, which is used to determine whether an agent can access services at the target. Then we describe the implementation and demonstration of a secure agent based application where the developed security architecture is deployed.
