In this paper an analytical model is presented in order to provide useful insight into the performance behaviour of new feature with Mobile IPv6. By using this model, the cost of a mobile node for mobility management can be estimated in terms of the user mobility characteristics, traffic load, network structure, and its operation policy. An optimal method for benefiting the new feature is also developed, which specifically provides a solution for controlling the lifetime of update binding so as to achieve the best system performance.
