Abstract

In order to facilitate the task of querying XML documents, different storage models for storing XML documents in database systems have been proposed, such as Edge, Xrel and XParent. In this paper, a new model-mapping approach, Xnode, is presented which has a simple schema with a small storage requirement yet maintaining the ancestor-descendent relationships to support fast query performance. Experiments with SIGMOD Record data has been conducted and the results show Xnode performs better in different query types.
