database benchmarks, generic benchmarks, custom benchmarks, performance evaluation, integrated benchmark suites
This paper is a preliminary description on an integrated benchmark suite for database systems, SIMS, which offers generic benchmarks and custom benchmarks to users in a unified interface. Currently SIMS supports three generic benchmarks (Wisconsin, BORD, and TPC-C) and four user-defined benchmarks. Any new custom benchmarks can be easily accommodated into SIMS. SIMS consists of four modules. Each module is implemented as a single operating system process and it has exactly one parameter file. Regarding data generation, eight data distributions are supported on three data types. The data generation module seems to be comprehensive in terms of simulating a real world situation.
