Abstract

In a power system, the regulators of the interconnected synchronous machines determine power system voltage profile. Conventional regulator systems are characterized by low frequency oscillations and slow response. To improve the performance of those excitation systems, more advanced controllers should be used. In this paper, a voltage regulator is proposed. The design of this regulator is based on the concept of variable structure control. The simulation results obtained from the proposed regulator have been compared to IEEE-type, Proportional-plus-Integral (PI), and VSC regulators, to demonstrate its effectiveness.
