Shunt Reactor Energization, ATPEMTP Simulation, Controlled Switching.
Transients produced upon shunt reactor switching (closing or opening), may be harmful for the reactor itself, for the switching device and for the adjacent system components. A variety of countermeasures, either alone or in conjunction, are used by the electric utilities for the reduction of these transients to safe levels. In the present study, an overview of the various common techniques for the safe energization of shunt reactors is presented and a comparison between the benefits of their use is made.
