Abstract

This paper presents a simple method of predicting the performance characteristics of a 6/4 single pole per teeth switched reluctance motor (SRM) based on the magnetisation characteristics data estimated from flux linkage at aligned and unaligned rotor positions derived by simplified three-dimensional approach on the assumed flux path (3-D AFP) method. In this technique, accurate estimation of permeance of the air-gap are achieved by considering all the end-effect leakage fluxes in the X-Y-Z planes during the calculation of the total permeance of the magnetic circuit of the motor. The availability of accurately derived magnetisation characteristics data for all angles between unaligned and aligned rotor positions enable simple and fast analysis to be performed in predicting the performance characteristics of the motor. All the simulated results obtained are compared with that of the results determined using two-dimensional (2-D AFP) method. The comparison revealed the reliability of the developed technique to simulate the various performance characteristics of the SRM with more accurate results without having to use any correction factor and many assumptions.
