Cogging torque, permanent-magnet, finite-element method.
Cogging torque is perhaps the most annoying parasitic element in a permanent magnet machine design because it represents an undesirable output. As a result, techniques to reduce cogging torque play a prominent role in machine design. In this paper, two different methods that can be used to reduce cogging torque are discussed, both theoretically (using finite element method FEM), and empirically (measuring it in several prototypes).
