Abstract

This paper examines the case of implementing a passive solar system consisting of a single glazed fenestration with an insulating roller blind and compares it with the case of a simple double – glazed unit. For the calculation of the heat gain, a numerical method is developed that simulates the daily variation of heat gain through south facing single and double glazed fenestration as well through the passive solar system. The results in form of tables and diagrams indicate the contribution of the passive system to the energy balance, on condition that the required proper operation is met, namely to roll up the blind by sunrise and to unroll it by sunset.
