An Implementation of the Continuation Method for Voltage Stability Analysis Including Reactive Power Generation and Tap Changer Limits

This paper provides an overview of local bifurcation theory and its application to power system voltage collapse analy sis. Two methods for finding turning points are described: a direct method and a continuation method. A computational program based on the continuation power flow method in Matlab environment, developed for ac systems including reactive power generation limits, transformer tap changer limits and an alternative speed up calculation process are also presented. The algorithm is tested on the uruguayan transmission network and an example is given. Some ideas about our future work are included.
