Circuit breakers. Inductive current interruption. Overvoltage
This paper outlines the voltage escalation and virtual current chopping phenomenon, which is related to circuit condition and the statistical property of vacuum interrupters, in the three phase inductive current interruption by vacuum circuit breaker. A computer program is developed to simulate the process and applied in the case of vacuum circuit breaker controlling an arc-furnace transformer. The effect of various circuit elements on overvoltage phenomenon are demonstrated and analysed.
