The bases of the EU organisation of electric energy trading are summarized (Directive 96/92/EC of the European Parliament). The Italian rules in the same topic are discussed (Legislative Decree 16 March 1999 No. 79), and the figures that will act in the new market are described. A accurate discussion is made on the possibilities and the difficulties offered by the new market, mainly from the point of view of the customers.
