Electric Power Company of Macedonia and Macedonian Railways have started processes of modernization of their information and communication facilities. Within the global reconstruction processes, named Power System Improvement Project in the case of Electric Power Company of Macedonia and Transport Sector Project in the case of Macedonian Railways, financed by the loan from the World Bank, integrated telecommunication systems are planned to be build. This paper presents the main characteristics of telecommunication system concerning the choice of appropriate transmission medium, transport technology and network topology. Employing modern technology would result in a robust telecommunication system that would improve the functioning of the companies. Such systems will enable fast and secure information transfer, needed for modernization of the services offered by Electric Power Company of Macedonia and Macedonian Railways.
