On the Effect of Packet Losses in HTTP Traffic Self-Similarity

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the effect of TCP on the self similarity of network traffic and the influence of packet losses in the long range dependence exhibited by Inter net traffic. By using a realistic WWW traffic model our simulations reveal that traffic long-range dependence induced by the underlying mechanisms of web browsing is increased when packet losses are higher.
